Families across the country are facing the pinch as prices rocket in shops and energy bills soar.

But Rishi Sunak’s wife is still unafraid to flaunt her vast wealth as she hits the campaign trail ahead of next week’s local elections.

Akshata Murty wore a pair of Gucci shoes costing £645 as she posed for pictures holding a Vote Conservative sign alongside activists.

The footwear, adorned with a large gold buckle in the shape of the designer brand’s logo, are understood to be leather mid-heel pumps from their range.

The heiress is the richest inhabitant of Downing Street in the country’s history.

Mr Sunak is currently under investigation by the Commons sleaze watchdog over claims he failed to properly declare his wife’s financial interests.

At a Commons grilling, he did not tell MPs that she owns shares in a childcare firm that was boosted by a key policy in the Budget.

A parliamentary standards probe is now looking into claims the PM broke the MPs' code of conduct.

Mr Sunak has been accused of a “complete lack of transparency” as her investments worth hundreds of thousands of pounds have been kept secret.

Farcically, his list of ministerial interests does not include her around £500million stake in Infosys, the Indian IT firm founded by her billionaire father.

During his failed Tory leadership bid last summer, Mr Sunak raised eyebrows when he wore £490 Prada suede shoes on a visit to a building site.

The former Chancellor donned the brown loafers as he toured construction at Teesside Freeport.

In an interview with a local newspaper during the campaign trip, he said: "I know things are tough and people are feeling anxious about how they're going to pay these bills."

Voters will go to the polls on May 4 in local elections when 8,141 council seats are up for grabs in 230 councils across England.

The Conservatives are expected to suffer losses as they are punished by the electorate for their botched running of the country.
