Carl Froch has taken a shot at Conor McGregor whilst backing Jake Paul to beat Nate Diaz.

Former boxing world champion Froch has been trading words with McGregor since last year, first mocking the UFC star by stating he "couldn't punch the skin off a rice pudding". McGregor fired back at Froch by threatening to "twist his head off" and the rivals have continued to wind each other up ever since.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul is scheduled to face one of McGregor's former opponents in Diaz and Froch couldn't resist another chance to mock 'Notorious' when discussing the fight. Froch fought at the same weight that McGregor will make his UFC return at later this year, but that didn't stop him from mocking his rival's size by calling him "half a leprechaun".

“It’s not a bad fight, is it? Nate Diaz is an MMA fighter who’s fought Conor McGregor twice coming over to boxing. I think when MMA fighters cross over I don’t think they’re very good – they’re great in the cage but I don’t think they’re very good in the ring. “Nate Diaz is also 38 years old as well, so it is a wise move," Froch said on his YouTube channel.

"I think it’s a wise choice for Paul to fight Nate Diaz, because it should be a comfortable enough win. I think Nate Diaz is half his height as well, he’s quite small. Conor McGregor, what’s he? He’s like half a leprechaun isn't he? Or is he a full leprechaun? But he’s a small geezer.”

McGregor hasn't won a fight in over years but will make his UFC return against Michael Chandler towards the end of 2023. The former two-weight UFC champion stepped into Froch's world six years ago for his lone boxing fight against Floyd Mayweather, but the Irishman has since teased a return to the ring once his UFC career is over.

Froch has even welcomed a fight against McGregor in the UFC, stating: "I’d fight Conor McGregor in the cage. I could be getting myself in trouble here or into a position I can’t wiggle out of, but I think I’d take him on in the cage. Is that ridiculous? Is that wrong? I'd take him on in the cage, he’s too small.” McGregor then responded to Froch's comments by telling promoter Eddie Hearn to "get this signed up."
