Britain can look forward to a more settled week on the weather front, with much of the country expected to stay dry for the duration.

On Sunday, many areas will be fine and dry with bright or sunny spells, with the best of the sunshine over parts of eastern and south-eastern England, with the mercury nicely rising on the thermometers.

It will be cloudier in the west, where it will be thick enough for a little rain at times, but mainly in the hills.

Overnight should remain dry and reasonably warm for most, although there will be some drizzle over western hills.

It will be dry for most on Monday, with a few showers around, although these should not amount to much.

Things may be cooler on the east coast, with some cloud lingering near North Sea coastal areas, while Wales could see temperatures of 16C, making it a very pleasant start to the week, with Northern Ireland going one better as it may reach 17C across the Irish Sea, with long spells of sunshine expected.

Even in the Orkneys and Shetlands, things are starting to heat up and don’t be surprised to be basking in 15C heat, following some spells of light drizzle.

It will then start to warm up for the rest of the week and be especially pleasant in the sun, although there will be an increasing risk of showers by Thursday.

ITV weather presenter Philippa Drew is predicting an upturn in the weather, with a warm front on its way.

She said: “High pressure will build during the weekend, centering itself over Scandinavia and bringing a quieter spell of weather through much of next week.

“As a result there’s good confidence in the forecast for something drier, brighter and warmer too.

"Locally we could creep towards 20 Celsius early next week… but the early mornings will still be on the chilly side.”
