Football fans have blasted a hotdog served up at a Sheffield United game with a a hefty £5.50 price tag, labelling it "the wurst" and a "sad sausage".

Many supporters have taken to social media to slam the "horrifying" sausage in a bun that was ordered at a Bramhall Lane home game, and some said it made them feel sick.

Up and down the country people rate the quality of their half-time bite to eat, and this time it has been the turn of the Blades' hotdog that has been picked on.

The puny offering was posted on the Footy Scran Twitter page, which is a popular account that shows food bought at football stadiums.

Fans didn't hold back with their light-hearted criticism of the hotdog, with one person saying that it looked like it had been cooked on a radiator.

Others said it looked like it had tested positive for Covid while an online vote revealed that 90% of people wouldn't eat it.

The scran Twitter feed posted the snap of the foodstuff, simply adding: "Hot dog at Sheffield United (@SheffieldUnited) £5.50."

The price of the hotdog was also picked on with one commentator joking: "Is £5.50 the amount they pay you to eat it?"

"No way. Nope. Looks nasty. I'd rather eat the tray," said another.

"Looks like it tested positive for Covid," said one, while someone added: "The word 'turgid' came immediately to mind."

Another footy fan lamented the grub's entire look, saying: "It's hard to say what's most horrifying here. It could be the yellowed ends of the tiny sausage, or its gelatinous exterior.

"But, I'll go with the careless asymmetry of the way the bun has been cut. It's so relentlessly wrong."

"No. This is a yikes," another viewer agreed, while one Twitter user joked: "Yes hello, I'd like to report a crime..."

And someone joined in: "That is the wurst."

Several picked on how well the hotdog had been cooked.

"How much for a cooked one?" one joked. And another said: "Cooked on a radiator?"

But a £4.70 sausage roll at the same venue got a little more support.

"That's a proper sausage roll," read one comment, but others were still not happy.

"Looks like it's made out of roadkill with bits of asphalt still attached," said one, while another said: "There's even some roadside litter stuck to the pastry."
