A theme park ride has collapsed injuring 11 people in terrifying footage.

Video shows the ride operating normally - rotating with people high in the air - before plunging at high speed to the ground.

People are heard screaming in the video taken on Tuesday in the Ajmer district of northern India's Rajasthan region.

Police say the crash happened after a cable broke, detaching the spinning platform from the central column, sending it hurtling to the ground.

Victims of the crash are being treated for their injuries at a nearby hospital.

This comes as last year the Mirror reported on a ride at the oldest theme park in the UK which collapsed, leaving two people injured in a crush as thrillseekers frantically tried to clamber free.

Children were heard screaming as onlookers rushed to help, with some even climbing onboard to help those who were trapped.

Others said the ride - which had only just opened for the day - was making creaking noises minutes earlier.

Two men were taken to hospital, one with leg injuries and one with a damaged shoulder. Miraculously, neither were seriously hurt.

It happened at the theme park - which opened in 1843 - in Blackgang, near Ventnor, Isle of Wight on Monday, August 8, 2022.

The park was shut temporarily but reopened the following day.

Ellie Westlake’s two brothers-in-law were those hurt on the magic carpet-style attraction.

She said: "My family, which includes a three-year-old, were on the ride and it began to make an odd sound. It then collapsed, which caused them all to go to one side and be squished."

Ellie, of Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset added: "My partner ran to grab my nephew and ended up pulling everyone else off the ride.

“After everyone was off, we noticed my brother-in-law, who is 20, hurt his leg and was unable to move it, or feel anything in his left leg. My other brother-in-law has done something to his shoulder.

And earlier this year, thrill seekers were left hanging upside down and fearing for their lives after a theme park ride malfunctioned.

The frightening incident happened at the Florida State Fair on February 17 after the Enterprise Ride, which looks like a ferris wheel, swung from left to right after its safety mechanism acted up.

People were left holding on “for dear life” as footage shows each carriage going upside down for a brief period before completely stopping.

The ride, which has no seatbelts, is seen standing vertically and leaves some of the thrill seekers hanging completely upside down amid fears for their own safety.

Frank Zaitshik, owner of Wade Shows and midway manager of the Florida state fair, said the ride was shut down for the remainder of the fair following the accident.

The fair had already reported an injury earlier in the year after a woman was left with two sprained ankles after the Midway’s “Spin Out” ride malfunctioned.
