Dawn French's life off-camera - 'broken' by Lenny Henry split to shedding 7st
Dawn French has been open about her divorce from actor and comic Lenny Henry as well as her yo-yo battle with her weight which has seen her lose seven stone.
The much-loved star is best known for her role in The Vicar Of Dibley as well as work with comedy partner Jennifer Saunders.
Back in 2014 the star managed to lose seven and a half stone after a complete lifestyle change.
Speaking candidly on her 30 Million Minutes tour Dawn revealed she didn't have a choice whether to lose weight or not..
She said: "When I was due to have my hysterectomy the doctor told me that if I could lose some weight before the op, they would be able to do it via keyhole, and I would recover in three weeks or so. Otherwise it would be big open surgery, and three months to recover"
Amanda Holden among stars fronting Comic Relief as Red Nose has 'makeover'She revealed that she managed to lose the weight by exercising more and changing her diet to be lower calorie.
Dawn tied the knot with Lenny Henry back in 1984 but the pair called time on their marriage in 2010.
The pair were seen as a power couple and Dawn has opened up before about how she struggled with the divorce.
In an interview in 2017 with the Mirror, Dawn said that the split left her 'broken'.
She said: "I have seen what happens if you stay broken.
"When I was single, I found my new self. But I think it is OK to grieve over a relationship."
Dawn got married to her now husband Mark Bignell in 2013 who she describes as a 'very cheerful man'.
Mark heads the drug and alcohol abuse charity, Hamoaze House, launched by Dawn’s late mum Felicity.
However, it seemed that Dawn didn't like the idea of dating before she met Mark as she described dating as 'excruciating' as she isn't an 'accomplished flirter'.
Lenny and Dawn have still remained friends despite their divorce.
Vital to celebrate Windrush pioneers, says Lenny Henry ahead of 75th anniversaryShe said she is 'amazed' at their friendship and how they managed to change from a 25 year marriage to a lasting friendship.
Lenny revealed that when they split there is usually someone in the marriage that wants to break up more than the other.
He said: "I think maybe one of us did, then the other one did, and then the other did over a period of time and then, in the end, we thought, ‘Oh, actually maybe we both do’."
After playing with her style over the last decade, Dawn revealed she'd gone back to her signature bob hairdo this week as she made her first red carpet appearance in months.
The 65 year old walked on the red carpet at the Wyndham's Theatre in London showing off her slim frame and natural grey locks.
Before the new style, Dawn was rocking a pixie cut, but had wondered what her signature bob would look like with grey hair.
Telling Good Housekeeping last year she is "curious" to see what her iconic bob would look like grey. Dawn has been embracing her stunning natural silver hair for a while as she "couldn't be bothered" to upkeep her dark brown locks.
Appearing on The One Show in December of last year, she said: "I just couldn’t be bothered to keep doing it. So I let my natural grey come through.
"I also cut some of it myself – to my hairdresser’s alarm! It’s much shorter than I’m used to now and I do have certain ‘Grrr’ moments when I don’t know how to style it – I would literally give my old hair 13 minutes of my time each day."
Fans won't have to wait long to see Dawn back on our screens.
The actress has been rumoured to be taking part in a special Red Nose Day sketch of smash BBC hit The Traitors.
While the Claudia Winkleman hosted series has been commissioned for a second series, viewers will get to see a special take on the dramatic game show when Dawn sprinkles her comedy magic later this month.
