NFL hopeful quarterback arrested over public intoxication
Talented quarterback and NFL hopeful Stetson Bennett has been arrested in Dallas, Texas, on suspicion of being 'intoxicated in public'.
The 25-year-old led home-town Georgia to their second National Championship during his final college year in 2022 raising his stock level and chance of being in next year's NFL. The six-foot quarterback was also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy in 2022 after throwing 4,127 yards and 27 touchdowns during his final collegiate season.
However, police told local news outlet WFAA that Bennett was arrested around 6am on Sunday for 'public intoxication'.
They reported that police responded to calls about a 'man banging on doors' and on arrival found Bennett, although it is unclear if he was responsible for the banging noise.
"The preliminary investigation found when officers arrived, they located the man, Stetson Bennett, 25, and determined he was intoxicated," said a Dallas Police Department statement. "Bennett was taken into custody, transported to the City Detention Center and charged with public intoxication."

Not phased by the big occasions the quarterback scored two touchdowns as Georgia beat Alabama 33-18 to claim their first College Football Play-Off National Championship title since 1980. Those performances also earned Bennett the offensive MVP honours.
After sticking with Georgia amid transfer speculation Bennett followed a successful 2021 campaign by throwing 4,127 yards and scoring 27 touchdowns in 2022. He was again a figurehead for Georgia in College Football Play-Off National Championship scoring three touchdowns in their narrow 42-41 win over Ohio State in the Peach Bowl national semi-final.
In the final Bennett again rose to the occasion scoring four touchdowns and named MVP in their 65-7 victory over TCU.
Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, and Will Levis are thought to be ranked as the top quarterbacks in this year’s class, but Bennett’s impressive display at Georgia could land him an NFL Draft pick later this year.
