A cleaning expert has warned of the one mistake people make when dusting that can increase cleaning time.
The expert has taken to social media to share her advice, saying that every speck of dust that is not cleaned properly will just go back onto the surface.
TikTok creator Ann Russell, who goes by @annrussell03 on the app, made a video to explain to her followers how they should be dusting.
She advised that instead of using a dry cloth to dust, a dusting cloth dunked in hot soapy water will do the trick much better, reports RSVP Live.

After sharing the video on TikTok, commenters wrote the post that they were left intrigued as to how they can get rid of dust in their homes as some advice has not worked.
One commenter posted a question about a new cleaning hack they learned, asking: “Ann, how do you deter dust from surfaces? I’ve seen a “hack” with oil and vinegar and wipe it but it doesn’t seem to work.”
Ann was quick to respond and highlighted a common mistake people make when dusting.
She said: “Think about what you’re doing when you swipe something down with salad dressing. Oil is sticky as it dries so when the dust comes down it sticks to it.
“The answer to dusting is damp dust. It doesn’t deter dusting from surfaces.
“Dust is particulate matter in the area. Gravity is a thing. What goes up, it comes down and it rests on your surfaces.
“Now if you just dust it with a dry cloth or a feather duster, you knock it back in the air and it lands again, so you damp dust.”

The expert continued to say: “Wring the cloth out as hard as you can so it’s barely damp. Wipe the dust off, dump it off and rinse it into the water. Repeat, keep going for every surface.
