'My mum-in-law is desperate to clean our house when I'm away - I feel violated'

When you go away you might ask a nearby family member to pop by and check in on the place to make sure everything is alright, or you might have a pet that needs regular feeding. Either way it can be a way of getting some peace of mind while you are travelling or on a work trip.

But one woman does not trust her mother-in-law's intentions after she said she couldn't wait for the woman to go away so that she could give the house a 'proper clean'. The woman is adamant that she keeps a clean house and is thinking that the mother-in-law just wants to snoop.

Taking to Reddit, the woman explained that she regularly cleans every nook and cranny of her house so was confused by her mother-in-law's remarks but feels she would just want to spy on all of her belongings while she is away.

In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, explained: "I am going on a work trip from February 4- February 10. My husband told her this and he said she was 'weirdly excited to come over and clean while you are away.'

"Now, I keep a very clean house. I wash my windows every weekend, I move the furniture when I clean, I clean my oven monthly. I vacuum daily. She has even commented that my house is very clean all the time."

The woman went onto ask why she would want to clean it when she is away and said that it is obvious she wants to have a rifle through her things.

She said: "My husband doesn't get it and says his mum is just trying to be nice. I feel violated that she even offered."

In response, many have supported the woman and said that she is not in the wrong.

One person wrote: "You are not wrong in the least and I'm shocked your husband doesn't see it."

While another stated: "Set your boundaries. Your hubby is clueless. I'm sure he doesn't realize [sic] she's being devious."
