New Casemiro red card footage emerges as Man Utd keeper De Gea names replacement

As Manchester United prepare for their midweek league game against Leeds United, the fallout from their weekend victory over Crystal Palace continues.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford helped Erik ten Hag's team wrap up a 2-1 victory over their opponents at Old Trafford. It was a nervy end to the game, though, with Casemiro shown a straight red card which will keep him out of the next three league matches.

Casemiro's replacement and the potential for United to appeal the suspension are among the topics covered in today's Man Utd news. Here are the latest lines from around Old Trafford.

New Casemiro footage

Footage has been shared on social media appearing to paint Casemiro's red card offence against Crystal Palace in a new light. The Brazilian was dismissed by referee Andre Marriner following a VAR check, having put his hands around the throat of opponent Will Hughes.

The fresh angle of the melee, which involved multiple players from both clubs, also shows Casemiro and Hughes embracing and laughing after the fact. United have a small window to lodge an appeal, and at the time of writing are believed to be weighing up whether to do so.

Ten Hag's Garnacho warning

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag has given a harsh truth to Alejandro Garnacho after the substitute was substituted himself on Saturday. The 18-year-old came on for Wout Weghorst with United 1-0 up, but made way for Harry Maguire in the closing stages as Ten Hag looked to preserve a 2-1 lead.

"I think we had to change something and it's not always nice,. like bringing off a player who we'd brought on [Alejandro Garnacho]," Ten Hag told MUTV. "But that is in the interests of the team and the player has to accept that."

Garnacho's last league start for United came on New Year's Eve against Wolves. He did start in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, though, playing just over an hour as United booked their place at Wembley.

De Gea has his say

Man Utd goalkeeper David de Gea believes new signing Marcel Sabitzer can step in to replace the suspended Casemiro. The Austria international made his debut from the bench against Palace after joining on loan from Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day.

"It's going to be tough for sure," he said ahead of the first two games against Leeds. "We already lost Christian [Eriksen], now Casemiro, big players for us. But we have a bigger squad, players are ready to play, everyone is really focused.
