Viola Davis joined the worthy group of winners who have become an "EGOT" - winning each of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

The actress, 57, picked up the final piece of the puzzle at Sunday evening's pre-telecast Grammy Premiere in Los Angeles. She earned the gong at the 65th annual edition of the ceremony for her audiobook memoir titled Finding Me.

Accepting the award, she labelled her career to date "such a journey" before gushing: "I just EGOT!"

She becomes only the 18th person to achieve the status, becoming the fourth Black person to do so after Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend and Jennifer Hudson.

Viola's Grammy comes on the back of her Oscar, two Tony's and Emmy wins.

Speaking about the project which completed her EGOT, she said: "I wrote this book to honour the 6-year-old Viola, to honour her, to honour her life, her joy, her trauma, her everything."

Her Academy Award came in 2017 as she was given the gong for Best Supporting Actress for her role as housewife Rose Maxson in 2016’s Fences.

Her Emmy was awarded in 2015 for her role as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away with Murder. The win made her the first Black woman to win the lead drama actress award at the ceremony.

Her two Tony awards came for King Hedley II and the Broadway production of Fences.

While Viola was accepting her Grammy award, other stars were hitting the red carpet ahead of the main event.

As is often the case Lizzo stole the show in a truly dazzling outfit as she stepped out wearing an orange Dolce & Gabbana corset gown, layered beneath a matching floral cape.

The 34-year-old singer was joined on the red carpet by her boyfriend Myke Wright, a day after the couple had a 'hard launch' of their relationship at the pre-Grammys bash.

Beyonce was set to create history at the event, being up for nine gongs, including Album of the Year.

She went up against Adele in the category, who was also hoping to be successful in six other sections.
