Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Leandro Trossard is in line to make his Arsenal debut against Manchester United this weekend.

The Belgian winger completed a £27million move to Emirates Stadium on Friday afternoon after a bitter falling-out at Brighton. He has put pen to paper on a long-term contract in north London and could potentially make his first appearance for his new club this weekend.

Arsenal take on in-form United at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon in what is set to be a severe examination of their title credentials. Upon bolstering his attacking options, Arteta was highly complimentary of Trossard's ability and confirmed that his move was completed ahead of the Football Association's registration deadline.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard said of the 28-year-old: "We are really happy to have him. He’s a player we have been following for a while now and the opportunity came, and we have a necessity to find a player in the front line that is versatile enough to play in a number of positions.

"He knows the league, has experience here and he can have an immediate impact. We have to think short term, but also medium and long term, and he gives all that.

"He’s a very intelligent player, when you look at what he has done in the last few years, and he fits our way of playing for sure. He trained today [Friday], so I hope so [he can feature against United]. I think so [the paperwork was done on time], I think he’s good to go."

Whilst Arteta has suggested Trossard will make his Gunners bow against the Red Devils, the Belgian winger has already declared his desire to getting down to business with his new club. He said: “I’m really excited to get started.

“This is a big club and I’m ready to show the fans what I can do. Everyone has seen how well we’re doing already and I’m here to help achieve their dreams - including myself.

“I’m going to take it day by day, work hard and try to help the team to achieve their goals. [I want to] get better as well. I know the manager is a great coach and I hope to be involved in doing great things and getting better as a player in every aspect.

“I’m really excited to see the fans in the stadium. I hope I can give you my all. I want to try and create as many magic moments as possible, and hopefully we can celebrate together.”

Trossard had enjoyed an excellent season for Brighton ahead of his move to Arsenal. In 16 Premier League appearances, he scored seven goals and provided three assists - form that was good enough to see him handed a place in Belgium's World Cup squad.

He did not play a single minute in each of the last two Premier League games after falling out with Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi.
