Queen Camilla reveals one tasty food the Royal Family are never permitted to eat

There are some foods that members of the royal family tend to avoid - including one very common ingredient that is strictly off limits, according to Queen Camilla

Being a member of the royal family means access to some of the world’s finest cuisines but there are some foods that are off limits - as Queen Camilla previously revealed.

One such item is a very common kitchen ingredient, which royals will avoid at all costs at an engagement. King Charles’s wife revealed all during an appearance on MasterChef Australia in 2018. Camilla was asked about prohibited royal foods, to which she responded: "I hate to say this, but garlic. Garlic is a no-no." Judge Gary Mehigan then asked: "So garlic is a no-no? Because you’re talking, chatting? " "Yes, exactly," Camilla agreed. "So you always have to lay off the garlic."

This has also been confirmed by former royal chef Darren McGrady, who revealed that palace chefs are forbidden from serving food containing too much onion or garlic. It’s not the only food that royals tend to avoid. Also off the menu is shellfish, which carries a high risk of food poisoning. Former butler to King Charles, Grant Harrold, has previously disclosed: "When dining, the Royal Family has to be careful with shellfish due to shellfish poisoning, due to their work schedules. It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties."

"We don’t want a member of the Royal Family having a serious reaction to food poisoning. Especially if [they] are on an overseas tour. Therefore you will not normally find this on the royal menu." Royals have been known to break this rule on occasion; Prince William has previously revealed his love of sushi and Charles has been known to sample shellfish.

Furthermore, the King loathes one food so much that he has banned it from all royal residences. The monarch received praise from animal rights organisation PETA after banning the French delicacy foie gras from all menus due to the unethical way it’s made. It was also previously revealed that Charles also chooses to skip one meal every day. Julian Payne, his former press secretary, said: "The King doesn’t eat lunch; so, an early lesson I learnt when out on the road with him was to have a big breakfast or bring a few snack bars with you to keep you going. The working day is pretty relentless. Beginning with the radio news headlines and a breakfast of seasonal fruit salad and seeds with tea."

Wild mushrooms and plums foraged from his gardens at Highgrove are also among his favourite items to eat, as well as salmon and cheese and biscuits. Charles also abstains from meat and fish on two days of the week, while he avoids dairy products additionally on one of those days, according to an interview with the BBC in 2021.
