Serving Metropolitan Police officers have revealed harrowing details of alleged rape within the force which were dismissed.

The two officers claimed female officers who had been sexually assaulted were ‘shouted down’ and forced to work with the same officers they had reported.

In an interview with ITV News, the cops spoke anonymously about how black police were left feeling suicidal and that there was a culture of racism and abuse in the force.

This comes following the shocking rape admission from Met Police officer David Carrick who pleaded guilty to 49 offences, including 24 rapes over nearly 20 years.

Speaking to ITV the officers said: “I have heard first-hand from female officers that have been sexually assaulted or raped by other police officers, shouted down, belittled and when they've complained it's fallen on death ears.

"They've been forced to work with the same officers again - it's not uncommon."

Met figures showed more than 150 police officers are under investigation over allegations of sexual misconduct or racism.

The Met has been marred by scandals such as the death of Sarah Everard as well as controversial stop and searches which saw them placed under special measures.

Now, David Carrick has been revealed as Britain’s worst rapist after almost two decades of raping women.

One of the officers who spoke anonymously went on the share that they "nearly killed" themselves "as a result of discrimination."

They also stated that morale was at an "all-time" low due to "broken promises" by the force following the death of George Floyd who was killed by police in America.

The officers who spoke to ITV stated that the Met Police Federation was ‘part of the problem’ and that they were “protecting officers” accused of wrongdoing.

Responding to the claim the Federation denied the allegations to ITV and said:

"Officers who are paying members of the Federation have a right - similar to insurance - to be represented by their Staff Association when they are accused of misconduct.

"Similar to defence lawyers, the fact we offer support to police officers who pay into the Federation is a non judgemental legal entitlement and part of fair and due process.

"The Metropolitan Police Federation actively supports the interests of more than 30,000 members on a daily basis. We have a fantastically diverse workforce and the Federation represents all of our colleagues.

"We also are part of an ongoing process to actively recruit representatives from differing backgrounds to help look after the welfare of our colleagues and support them when they need it most.

Bas Javid, Deputy Assistant Commisioner for the Metropolitan Police Force told ITV: "There's no room for racism, misogyny or any form of discrimination in the Metropolitan Police, and we've been working incredibly hard to root out any officers or staff who show any signs of these kinds of behaviours.

"It's unacceptable and I would encourage both of these officers to come forward and reassure them that we will do everything within our power to make sure they're taken seriously and their complaints are investigated."

The Mirror has contacted Met Police for a comment.
