Celebrity Big Brother viewers have been left convinced that Princess Kate and her family were behind the demise of Gary Goldsmith's foray into showbusiness.

Gary, 58, was the first celebrity to be evicted from the Big Brother house after garnering more votes than Real Housewives of Cheshire star Lauren Simon. And fans wasted no time in providing their opinion as to why he was evicted and believed that it wasn't simply down to the public vote. They were convinced that the Princess of Wales and the Middleton family orchestrated his eviction in a desperate bid to halt Gary's temptation to talk about the Royal family.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: "Kate's 'secret weapon' being the first out of the house is HILARIOUS!!!" Another user commented: "Gary is probably now going to sell stories to newspapers about contestants in the house and BB production. Also, he’ll probably get more £££ for speaking about Kate It’s good that he’s gone #CBBUK."

A third person added: "The Middletons breathe a sigh of relief #GaryGoldsmith #cbbuk." It was also claimed that fans of the future Queen were unable to vote to keep her uncle in the show. One person said: "So #KateMiddleton fans couldn’t vote for her uncle? #CBBUK."

And another penned: "Gary's out #cbbuk" this was accompanied by a picture of Kate and Prince William hysterically laughing. Ahead of joining the show, royal expert Jennie Bond revealed to the Mirror that Carole Middleton, Kate's mother, would have read Gary the riot act to avoid humiliation.

She told us: "I just can't understand why Gary Goldsmith has gone in. I think he's either mad or bad or shockingly misguided. Because he doesn't need money, we must assume he wants the notoriety. He says he's been painted as a caricature as the black sheep but he's just reinforcing that by going in. So I'm bewildered by his motivation."

She continued: "He contradicts himself because he says he wants to persuade people that he's the black sheep - but he goes on and says 'I know I'm the 'buncle, the bad uncle and I'm full of mischief, I'm danger.' Which is the last thing anyone in the Palace would want to hear."

Jennie then went on to cast doubt over the relationship Gary actually has with the royals. She explained: "I don't know whether he told Carole about going in. He said that Catherine is difficult to get hold of at the best of times so I'm quite sure he didn't get hold of her to say, 'By the way, I'm going into the Big Brother house.' If Carole knew I'm sure she would have read him the riot act. So I think he almost certainly has gone against his family and their better judgement - and for what?"

Asked whether he was still in contact with Carole, Jennie said: "Not anymore! I rather doubt that he did tell her because she would have been against it and there would have been a massive family row! And why would he bother telling her? I don't know but I'm sure if he had told her she would have tried to persuade him not to. So now we have another family rift - they've got rifts going on all over the place now - Gary, Meghan's side of the family and Harry's side of the family. And now Carole and Gary and Catherine and William."
