Gary slammed by Celeb Big Brother for 'milking it' after controversial past

Fans have slammed Celebrity Big Brother star Gary Goldsmith for refusing to take "accountability" for his controversial past as he tries to play the victim on the ITV show

The shamed uncle of the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, took part in a group task named Celestial Retreat where housemates had to answer questions written on a petal. Gary, 58, was asked by fellow housemate Fern Britton: "How have you found peace within yourself or are you still looking?" He responded saying: "I think peace is something always to be striving for. I thought I was having a really cool life until something hits you. "

He continued: "One day I was Gary, a businessman having a laugh with a great family. And then the next minute, I’m a national villain. So, I don’t really know what true peace is if I’m honest.” On the back of his candid comment, fans rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter to make their feelings known.

One person said: "I love how Gary doesn’t take any accountability and just thinks he became a villain out of nowhere." Another person added: "National villain” I didn’t even know who Gary was until the series started." While a third person said: "Until something hits you” more like until you hit SOMEONE, Gary!!!"

And a fourth said: "Poor Gary I think he should elaborate on what comes up when you google him #CBBUK." And a fourth said: "Not milking it much." This comes after Gary became the centre of a scandal in 2009, leaving members of the Royal family in shame. The controversial businessman was caught by the News of the World allegedly cutting up lines of cocaine for a sex worker at his Ibiza villa.

Gary clearly felt, judging by his comment, that had Kate Middleton not married into the Royal family, he would not have been someone of interest. But fast-forward eight years and Gary found himself in hot water once again after he admitted to attacking his wife Julie-Ann Goldsmith, knocking her to the ground during a drunken row.

At the time, Gary and Julie-Ann became embroiled in a heated row outside their Marylebone home and Gary struck his wife, which was witnessed by a taxi driver. The couple had been arguing about his drug use and after he was slapped by his wife, Gary reportedly punched Julie-Ann who fell to the ground.

In court, Gary admitted one charge of assault by beating and was given a 12-month community order with 20 rehab sessions to adhere to, to ensure "this sort of loutish behaviour does not reoccur." He was also ordered to pay a £5,000 fine and an additional £170 victim surcharge. He also had to pay £85 towards prosecution costs.
