A film fan resorted to drastic action while watching the latest blockbuster at the cinema after he'd had enough of one unruly viewer. The customer was looking forward to enjoying Dune 2 in an expensive venue with cushy seats and table service on offer.

However, instead of a relaxing night in front of the silver screen he instead had to endure a group of loud women a couple of rows in front of him. The man said: "We went to see Dune 2 (highly recommended) last night... in a VIP theatre with comfy seats and table service... which I mention because to attend, you must be 19+ - they serve real drinks.

"Seated two rows ahead of us, were three young women... 19-22 I'd guess. They didn't shut up during any of the previews, and spoke loudly to each other throughout the movie... which is annoying, but, unfortunately, hardly unique these days."

As if that wasn't bad enough, one of the women then pulled out her phone, caking the man's view of the sci-fi film in a distracting light. From his position, he could see that she was checking her social media every 10 minutes or so.

He explained: "It'd be an understatement to say it was distracting. She'd text, scroll Instagram, watch TikTok videos... for a few minutes... then put it down. Ten minutes later, out came the phone again," and slamming her actions as "incredibly annoying". Eventually, the cinema goer snapped and told her loudly to, "put the phone away!"

The post continued: "She looked back, gave me a look like "STFU old man", but put it down. And then, 10 minutes later, pulled it out again. Again, full brightness." Feeling he was left with no alternative, the man rummaged for a piece of popcorn and hurled it in her direction, which caused an ensuing commotion in the room.

He said: "So I got a piece of popcorn and threw it at her... hit her on the head. As you can imagine, she turned around... 'Are you f*****g serious right now?!' 'Yeah, I'm serious, can't you live without your phone for a couple of hours? 'Shhh!', said someone, 'Shut up!', said someone else. She put it away... and then, maybe 20 minutes later, out it came again."

After then throwing another piece of popcorn, which barely missed her face, the culprit put her phone away for the rest of the film. He added: "Nobody stood, nobody clapped, nobody really cared. And that might have been the end of it, except after the movie, she quite bluntly said to her friend as we were walking out, looking at me, 'That's the a*****e'."

Although he never revealed his age in the Reddit post, the disgruntled man noted the change in cinema etiquette over the years. He said: "I've come to understand that movie etiquette has changed from when I was 20. Back then, of course, there weren't phones... but it was unheard of to engage in behaviour that'd be distracting to others.

"And when phones appeared 30 years ago, you'd NEVER get on it during the movie, and if you had to, you'd walk out and deal with it. But these days, this is par for the course. Anyway, if I'm paying $25 per ticket plus food plus drinks (expensive!) plus parking for a night out and a true theatre experience, I'd like to enjoy it with what I think is the environment all of that deserves."

While wondering if he was just "out of touch these days" for reacting the way he did, hundreds of people supported him. One person replied: "There need to being back public punishment for people that use their phone at the movies," with many suggesting stocks and rotten vegetables and labelling the woman "rude, inconsiderate and entitled".

Another added: "You did the right thing... Should’ve bought more popcorn to dump over their heads." Others believed that the women should have been thrown out without a refund: "Those who are found to be disruptive in the theater will be asked to leave without a refund. This includes chatty moviegoers, those who cannot put their phones down during the movie, and children who talk, scream, or don’t stay in their seat."
