Second Man Utd icon forced from Old Trafford seat for "bloody ridiculous" reason

Gordon Hill has become the second former Manchester United star to be told he is being moved from the Old Trafford seat he has had for almost 30 years - and has vowed to address the debacle with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Hill made more than 100 appearances for the Red Devils across a three year stay, but that is not enough to prevent his relocation. It comes just weeks after another ex-player, Norman Whiteside, was subjected to the same treatment.

Whiteside appeared more than 200 times for United in the 1980s, breaking through as a teenage star and scoring an iconic FA Cup Final goal. But he too has seen his platinum season tickets relocated. His wife claimed that the move stems from the fact the club want to expand executive seating, though the Red Devils have denied this.

Now Hill has taken to social media to vent his fury over the situation, posting on X: "Looks like I will not be taking my season tickets after having them from 1996, and being told you will be relocated I can not believe this from a club I represented and played my heart out for. I was given a reason which was bloody ridiculous I will be speaking to Jim. Not happy."

When asked by a follower if he knew the reason behind the decision to relocate his season ticket, Hill replied: "Ale room for Academy and women’s team. That’s it."

His sentiment was a similar one shared by the wife of Whiteside last month, who posted an image of her husband's seat alongside a caption that read: "So, it doesn't matter how long you've been a loyal supporter, doesn't matter if you played for your club, @ManUtd can just dump you from your seat when they feel like it, so they can expand exec seating! Absolute disgrace!

"I’d like to make clear that this post is not just about Norman. There are a whole block of loyal supporters who expressed their views to me at the West Ham game, but they feel as if they have no voice or platform to voice their anger."

United were quick to issue a response as they admitted they empathise with Whiteside's frustration. A spokesperson said: “We have the greatest respect for Norman as a legend of the club, and understand the disappointment caused to him and other season ticket-holders by seat relocations.

"These happen for various reasons, including, next season, the moving of matchday hospitality seats into consolidated blocks to address fan concerns about them being dispersed around the stadium. Other changes next season include the removal of hospitality seating from the Stretford End and installation of further rail seating in the North-West Quadrant, bringing benefits to many fans but also causing some disruption.

"No additional hospitality seats are being created at the expense of season ticket-holders - in fact hospitality seating will reduce by more than 500 next season. We are committed to working with all season ticket-holders affected by relocations, including Norman, to find them the best possible alternative seats elsewhere in the ground.”

A Manchester United spokesperson confirmed to Mirror Football: "We understand the disappointment felt by Gordon and other season ticket-holders affected by seat relocations," before echoing the same sentiment that was provided in their response to Whiteside being forced from his seat.
