Klopp makes feelings clear on Arteta celebrations with X-rated verdict
Jurgen Klopp has backed Mikel Arteta in the celebration debate and said he does not “give a s***” about what people think of his own fist-pumping antics.
The Liverpool manager, who leads his side into the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday, went to all four Anfield stands on Wednesday night to delight in the comeback win over lowly Luton Town. His joy reignited talk over excessive celebration when there is so much of the Premier League campaign to be completed.
Earlier this month, Jamie Carragher criticised Arsenal after they partied on the pitch in the wake of their win over Liverpool at the Emirates. But Klopp said: “I heard the discussions that Mikel over-celebrated the win against us. That definitely did not come from me.
“You do what you do for yourself and your people and what the outside world thinks about it, I couldn’t give a s***, to be honest. And you can write that exactly like that.
“You can make of my celebrations what you want. I didn’t invent fist-pumps and I don’t have the copyright on it and I don’t want it. This is for us and nobody else. Who likes it, likes it, and who doesn’t like it, doesn’t like it.”

Klopp then explained why he gave those fist-pumps to the entire crowd - and not just the Kop - after the 4-1 comeback win over Luton, even suggesting it was the most memorable game of his Liverpool career. He said: “I know how it felt in the stadium when they (the fans) realise 11 players are missing.
“But then it is about how you deal with it and that is why I love this game (the Luton match) so much. It was always clear that we would have to learn in the game. How we deal with opponents, how we deal with the situation and that was so special.
“If we talk about my book then this game has to have its own chapter. It deserves it, it is so special because it is proving a point. It is not about who, it is about how you play, and how much you believe in the things you are doing and that was a wonderful example I will never forget definitely.
“Would I have thought before the season that the Luton game was the one I would never forget in my life? No. But that is the game I will never forget and I will tell my grandkids because it was really special.”
Ahead of the Wembley showdown with Mauricio Pochettino ’s side, Klopp will make late fitness checks on Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai. But Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota will all be out until late March at the earliest.
