Man Utd suffer another injury blow as club confirm length of Hojlund absence
Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has picked up an injury.
Hojlund has been in terrific form recently, scoring eight goals in his last eight games across all competitions. The £72million summer signing has hit his stride, helping United record four straight wins in the Premier League, but he will miss their game against Fulham on Saturday.
United said in a statement: "Rasmus Hojlund will miss Manchester United's Premier League game against Fulham on Saturday due to a muscle injury. It is expected to keep him out for two to three weeks."
The 21-year-old has been absolutely key to United's upturn in form in 2024, finding his scoring boots following a slow start at the club. Hojlund took some time to click into gear, but his brace in the 2-1 win over Luton last weekend showed his confidence in front of goal.
His unavailability comes a major blow to Erik ten Hag, who does not have a like-for-like replacement at centre-forward, with Anthony Martial also injured. It means Marcus Rashford is likely to move from the left flank to the centre against Fulham.
Marcel Sabitzer completes Man Utd transfer after last-minute deadline day dash“We recruited him on his character,” Ten Hag said of Hojlund after the Luton win. “I knew it was strong. He can really perform under stress and that is something you need as a Manchester United striker. He doesn’t get nervous or lose confidence. He has a lot of confidence and I’m sure he will score even more.
“He needed support but he kept calm. He was unlucky at the start. You see he’s a fighter, he keeps going. There are many areas where he can improve but his scoring ability is clear.” Hojlund has 13 goals in 30 appearances altogether for United this season.
Hojlund's injury comes after United lost Luke Shaw for an extended period of time. The United left-back could miss their remaining 13 Premier League matches following another setback.
Shaw has only managed 15 games this season due to injury and his injury leaves Ten Hag without a specialist in the position, with Tyrell Malacia also injured and loanee Sergio Reguilon having been let go in January.
United are also without centre-back Lisandro Martinez, right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and midfielder Mason Mount due to injuries. They sit sixth in the Premier League table, five points adrift of Aston Villa in fourth after 25 matches.
