Alejandro Garnacho is enjoying an impressive season for Manchester United and there are some at the club who believe he could be the next Cristiano Ronaldo.

Garnacho joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2020 and made his first-team debut against Chelsea in 2022. He enjoyed a breakout campaign last season as he scored five goals and provided five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

However, Garnacho has been one of United's leading players this season, with the winger their joint-third leading goalscorer. Only Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay have scored more goals than him, while captain Bruno Fernandes has matched his seven strikes across all competitions.

And on the latest episode of the Footballer's Football Podcast with West Ham star Michail Antonio and Fulham captain Tom Cairney, presenter Rickie Haywood-Williams claimed there are people at United who believe Garnacho "has the potential" to be the next Ronaldo.

When Cairney asked who had the highest ceiling out of Garnacho, Hojlund and Kobbie Mainoo, Haywood-Williams replied: "People are saying that they reckon Garnacho is going to be." Cairney then added: "What, like the next Cristiano?"

Haywood-Williams then responded: "That's what they have been saying, that's what I've been hearing. We can’' predict these things but from the murmurings I'm hearing coming out of Old Trafford, they are saying that he has the potential to go to that level."

Garnacho is a huge fan of Ronaldo and has previously been compared to the 39-year-old by Red Devils legend Paul Scholes. "I'm really excited about him," Scholes told the Webby & O'Neill YouTube channel last year.

"Whenever I see him I'm impressed. He's a superstar in the making. He's so brave in possession. He's very much the way Cristiano was as a young player. He doesn't mind being kicked, he gets up, he goes for more he scores goals.

"He's got a lot of growing to do and once he gets a manly body and physical strength, I don't think there's much stopping him." The 19-year-old has played more Premier League minutes than any other teenager so far this season, with manager Erik ten Hag praising his versatility.

"Garnacho is right-footed," he said. "He's very good with left, but also functions with his right. So Alejandro, so natural, he prefers to play on the left as well. But now, he finds his position on the right as well, which he's doing very good and also quite fluid. He finds his spaces there but, yeah, he can do both, which is great."
