Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho has been handed a warning from Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic after a disappointing outing in the Champions League - but his boss insists the winger is much happier in Germany.

Dortmund played their first leg away from home at PSV Eindhoven, having topped a group including Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle United. Donyell Malen put the visitors in front against his former club, only for Luuk de Jong to equalise from the penalty spot.

The match was Sancho's first taste of European football this season, after he was frozen out by former club Manchester United after a falling-out with boss Erik ten Hag. His most recent appearance for his parent club came at the end of August, before their own Champions League opener against Bayern Munich.

Sancho delivered two assists in his first two games back at Dortmund after rejoining the club on loan in January. He hasn't added any more since, though, and Terzic made his feelings clear on the England international after replacing him midway through the second half in Eindhoven, but the manager has been pleased with what he's seen on and off the pitch.

"With Jadon it's always good to have him around," Terzic told TNT Sports. "Inside the team, inside the group and also inside the squad on a matchday, because you know Jadon is capable of making special things happen.

"He didn't have his best performance today and he knows that he's able to play better football than today. And this is what we're going to work on, to get him back on this level every three days when needed. But he's full of joy, we are really happy and pleased that he's around."

There couldn't be a starker contrast to Sancho's time at Old Trafford this season. The winger was frozen out amid a war of words with Ten Hag, training away from the first-team before being allowed to make a temporary switch to Germany.

Sancho's exclusion at United began after he was left out by Ten Hag for the September loss at Arsenal. Speaking in January, Ten Hag was asked again whether an apology would have led to the 23-year-old being reintegrated, and made his position clear.

"Yeah but we have said that before and I don't want every time to return to that point," Ten Hag said. "He knows what he should do and we have made that clear.

"It was also so clear and obvious about his performances, so let's stop this discussion. He's at Dortmund and we wish him the best of luck."
