Ed Sheeran achieved whopping 5st weight loss after giving up daily habit
When Ed Sheeran had his first daughter Lyra in 2020, it was the motivation he needed to give up his 'Bad Habits'.
The Thinking Out Loud hitmaker is today (February 17) celebrating his 33rd birthday, the day after playing a sold-out gig at the National Stadium in Singapore. Ed began recording music in 2004, and has gone on to achieve worldwide fame and has been touring around the world regularly.
His Divide tour went on to become the highest-grossing of all time in August 2019, but along the way the dad-of-two picked up some unhealthy lifestyle habits.
In an interview with The Sun back in 2021, Ed explained that at his heaviest he weight 15.5st due to a diet of "chicken wings, wine, beer" every day, coupled with "never" exercising. He also revealed taking a break from touring was the "worst thing" for his health, as he would "drink every single day".
But that all stopped when he became a parent alongside his wife Cherry Seaborn. He told the publication: "Since becoming a dad I've become quite clean-living. But I think actually taking time off and not being on tour was the worst thing for my health because I would drink every single day.
Ed Sheeran says 'turbulent things' have happened in personal life in rare video"I stopped three months before Lyra was born because I was determined I was going to be the person to drive my wife to the hospital. I was 15-and-a-half stone at my peak and I think I'm ten-and-a-half now - I was big, it really showed. I had a 36 waist - now I'm down to 28."
However, the singer, who released his Autumn Variations album in September 2023, explained he still does the things he loves, like drinking wine, because he fears cutting them out completely might tempt him back into bingeing. However, he has massively reduced his consumption as he tries to live a more "clean" lifestyle.
In the candid chat, the Grammy Award-winning artist explained that he had made "a lot of mistakes" over his career, and that touring as a solo artist made him feel extremely lonely at times. He explained that when he would come off stage he would realise "suddenly it's just you".
He would go out on his own, "not knowing anyone, walking into a bar" and see where the "night took" him. Ed added that he ended up in "situations which were pretty dangerous" and that he's "very grateful" that things that could have happened to him, didn't.
Ed Sheeran is currently on the road with The Mathematics tour, which comprises of 116 shows across four legs. He's also set to release a joint album with J Balvin in 2024.
