When you were a kid in the pre-self-checkout days, you likely dreamed of scanning your own items through the till.

The thought of scanning, the machine beeping, and then totting it up is exciting for many kids, and that's why Morrisons have taken the decision they have - but some are not happy about it.

A handful of stores across the UK have launched an initiative, named 'Morrikidz tills', which is a unique initiative that lets children scan their parents' shopping. And it's not on the self-checkout either - they'll be seated behind the till. While many have found the thought of this adorable, others are less than impressed with the educational opportunity.

While many have praised its teaching of responsibility and money management skills, some have slammed it as "ridiculous", and have even threatened to do their shopping elsewhere as a result, despite the fact the tills are really engaging and interactive for children, and a fantastic way to help them learn.

However, one mum labelled it as "the cutest idea", letting other parents know that it was available. @kerri.andherkids wrote: "Did you know that Morrisons have introduced a kids checkout so they can scan their parents shopping?"

And after some joked about "scanning everything as potatoes", the mum penned: "Just to clear up, they are supervised by a member of staff the whole time", followed by a crying with laughter face.

Other parents weren't a fan though, saying they "haven't got time" to wait around for their kids to scan their items for them. Another mum joked: "One way of going over the 90mins free parking. Cute idea though."

More information about the initiative was recently shared on the Shrewsbury Morrisons Community Champions page. The team said: "We will be introducing our new kids checkout where your children can be supervised by one of our amazing colleagues, to scan all the parents/guardians shopping through the till, if this is something you would like your little ones to take part in and it is unmanned please ask a member of the checkouts team they will be happy to help."

Some labelled the scheme as "awesome", hoping that other Morrisons' across the UK would participate, and another shared: "Doesn't matter how much we do for kids in their childhood it is all these little things that will be memories forever. The experience, the feeling important, feeling useful, feeling grown up! Such a great idea!"

Others were not a fan though, with one grumpy shopper writing: "It's time to shop elsewhere", and another slamming it as a "silly idea."
