US Congresswoman tells David Cameron to 'kiss my a**' over Ukraine funding row

A US Congresswoman has told David Cameron to "kiss my a**" after the Foreign Secretary waded into a row over funding for Ukraine.

The former PM urged Congress to vote through a package for the sake of global security and aid President Zelensky's fight against Russia.

In an article for a US publication, Mr Cameron called on US politicians to pass a critical bill worth over $90billion, which also includes funding for Israel.

Writing in the Hill he admitted he was "going to drop all diplomatic niceties". He said: "I want us all — U.S., U.K., European and other allies — to support Ukraine in fighting against completely unjustified aggression. It is hard to think of a clearer case of one country being invaded by another without the slightest justification.

"I believe our joint history shows the folly of giving in to tyrants in Europe who believe in redrawing boundaries by force. I do not want us to show the weakness displayed against Hitler in the 1930s. He came back for more, costing us far more lives to stop his aggression."

But the intervention and the reference to Hitler attracted criticism from one ardent Donald Trump supporter in Congress. Asked about the ex-PM's comments, the Republican Marjorie Taylor said: "I think he tried to compare us to Hitler also and if that's the kind of language he wants to use I really have no time for him."

She added: "I really don't care what David Cameron has to say. I think that's rude name calling and I really don't appreciate that type of language. David Cameron needs to worry about his own country and frankly he can kiss my a**".

The Foreign Secretary issued a similar appeal last December, when he warned during a visit to Washington that blocking support for Ukraine would be a " Christmas present" for Russia's Vladimir Putin. Lord Cameron dismissed suggestions that he was "interfering" with US politics, saying he came "as a friend of America" and voting through the funding is "the right thing to do."
