UFC boss Dana White explains delay over Conor McGregor's comeback fight

UFC boss Dana White remained tight-lipped when asked about why Conor McGregor's comeback fight has faced frequent delays.

McGregor's fight against Michael Chandler was announced over a year ago but has since faced several delays. The pair were expected to meet last summer after coaching against each other on The Ultimate Fighter. A December date was pushed back until the summer but White recently said autumn is the new targeted period for the fight to take place.

Both McGregor and Chandler are seemingly raring to go as they have campaigned to fight at UFC 300 in April. A date is yet to be set in stone but McGregor seems to think the fight will take place on June 29 to headline the promotion's International Fight Week.

White pointed to McGregor's injury and his huge amount of wealth as two reasons for the delay of his return.

"First of all, he is coming back from one of the nastiest injuries you can come back from," UFC boss White told Kevin Iole. "How long was Anderson Silva out for when he did it? How long was Chris Weidman out when he did it? Conor McGregor doesn't need the f****** money.

"So, when you don't need the money, it's not as easy. Khabib [Nurmagomedov] doesn't need the money, Khabib retired. Conor McGregor has a movie coming out, he's got businesses he's building, it's a completely different dynamic when you're dealing with a guy who has this kind of money."

When quizzed if McGregor is currently healthy enough to fight, White responded: "I don’t know that. Only Conor knows that. These are questions for Conor McGregor, not me.

"I know he’s training. I don’t know what level of training he’s doing. I don’t know what level of kicking he’s doing right now.

"I don’t know any of that stuff. I need to know the guy is in a full camp and that he is ready to go.”
