Jeff Stelling was left furious after he was forced to call the police after 'scumbags' defaced his car.

The former Sky Sports presenter finished the Chesterfield leg of his 'An Evening with Jeff Stelling' tour to find a huge gash in his car door. The 68-year-old saw the bodywork of his vehicle ruined with a thick gap present after the metal had been sliced and contorted open.

Stelling revealed that he contacted police after discovering the damage, and took to social media to blast those responsible for the incident. The talkSport host put out a plea to his followers on X, while also offering a blunt assessment of the perpetrators.

Stelling said: "Thanks Chesterfield. Anyone who knows the scumbags who did this to my car while I was trying to entertain people please let me know. What the f*** has happened to people."

He added: "@DerbyshirePolice Any prospect of you attending Casa hotel for attempted car theft/serious damage on Range River Sport reported over an hour ago?

"I know you have other things to do but told a police van came past briefly but no one yet bothered to contact me - the owner."

While the Hartlepool United fan found plenty of support on the site, others were less kind about Stelling's plight. After one user lamented the replies, he said: "That is almost as depressing as getting car sliced open."

Stelling is in the middle of a nationwide tour that has already taken in the likes of Southampton and Liverpool, and is set for Leeds' City Varieties on Monday evening. Hosted by Bianca Westwood, the show looks to detail Stelling's career and divulge plenty of behind the scenes anecdotes from his time leading Soccer Saturday.

Having started in his presenting role there in 1994, Stelling quit the job at the end of the 2022/23 season. Stelling revealed the work was impacting his health as he became too 'tired' and 'stressed' to enjoy Saturday nights with his family.

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Stelling said: “I had the most fantastic run on the show; I made the greatest mates and was paid well for one of the best jobs in the world. But the show was heading in a direction which meant it wasn’t quite the same.

“Even though I’d been there a long time, I felt some of my views weren’t considered at all. Every week I was fighting a battle. I got tired of fighting and it was making me ill. Eventually, I went to Sky’s management and said: ‘This is making me unwell. I’ve got to step away from it.’”
