Katherine Ryan's partner Bobby Kootstra admitted that he misses sharing a bed with her, after it was revealed on her new docuseries that they have been sleeping separately.

The comedian, 40, fronts the five-part W series Katherine Ryan: Parental Guidance, which launched on Monday night. The show, which explores parenting and family dynamics, also features her partner Bobby, 40, and her three children.

The first episode introduced viewers to Katherine's family, which includes her daughter Violet, 14, from a previous relationship. Katherine is also a parent to daughter Fenna, one, and son Fred, two, with her partner Bobby.

At one point in the episode, the couple revealed that they don't sleep in the same bed anymore. They explained that Katherine shares a bed with their youngest child Fenna, whilst Bobby shares a different room with toddler Fred.

Discussing the situation, Bobby shared that the four of them had tried sleeping in the same room previously. He told viewers that the children kept waking each other up though, which led to him and Katherine being in separate rooms.

Katherine shared: "We're both co-sleeping with someone. Bobby sleeps with Fred because I'm sleeping with Fenna. It's really good for the children to have that." She added that she gets up with Fenna earlier than Bobby and Fred do.

She commented: "The priority in the morning is pumping [to express breast milk]." Katherine added that once she's done that she can fold any laundry, play with Fenna and feed her breakfast. She added: "We have a nice little routine the girls and then the boys come down and it all goes crazy."

Bobby said: "Katherine and I co-sleep. I like to call it 'man-to-man defence'. We did try to have everyone in the same room but the babies were kind of waking each other up, so we had to switch to separate rooms, which is a bit better but also I do kind of miss sleeping with my sexy wife."

He went on to comment about their sleeping arrangements during the episode: "It's probably not been great for our intimacy. So w kind of are missing a couple of different important connections I think for any relationship really."

Katherine told him in a scene: "I miss sleeping with you, I do." Bobby suggested that their sleeping arrangement will remain for two more years unless they have more children. He added: "Who knows what will happen. I may be dead."

The comedian teased in a scene on the show: "I kind of want another one. Like, I think we should just do it right away. I think we should just jump in. Nobody goes like 'oh I wish I had fewer kids' on their deathbed. 'My only regret is Stephen' - y'know like nobody says that."

Later in the episode, Katherine and Bobby sought guidance from professional nanny Brenda Hart over their approach to parenting. Brenda teased that she would help them get more independence in the home throughout the series.

A synopsis for the newly-launched docuseries on W teases: "Comedian and mother-of-three [Katherine] explores out-of-the-box parenting ideas, and meets families across the UK who are living and breathing them."

Katherine Ryan: Parental Guidance continues next Monday on W from 9pm. You can catch up on the previous episode and watch the five-part series through streaming platform UKTV now.
