Katherine Ryan says The Masked Singer is great way to teach kids about lying

The Masked Singer has proved to be a great way of teaching children about telling fibs.

Unfortunately, it’s taught some how much fun they can have when telling little white lies.

Five million viewers watched as Pigeon was unmasked as comic Katherine Ryan on Saturday - much to the surprise of her daughter Violet .

The 13-year-old had asked her if Pigeon was her during the first week.

"She was excited," says Katherine, 39. "First livid... then excited. My teenager thought it was ridiculous that I lied to her – and that I got away with lying to her.

"She guessed it week one. We watch the Masked Singer all the time. She said, ‘Is that you? That sounds like you doing an Essex accent, and you like all those songs’.

"I said, ‘No, I’m here and I’m pregnant... I can’t possibly be the pigeon. It’s not me. And I don’t lie’. She took me at my word."

Katherine doesn’t anticipate her girl believing she can fib as much as she wants. She said: "I think it’s a good example of a fun lie.

"There’s a distinctive difference between what is a lie and what is a surprise.

"And I think that I’ve been truthful throughout so much of our relationship – some might say too truthful – that I earned one white lie.

"If she throws me a surprise party, then that’s a good lie. So I look forward to seeing that."

Get guessing on more surprises as this Saturday’s show will feature a double unmasking on ITV from 7pm.
