Presenter Steph McGovern has revealed that she was not a guest at pal Carol Kirkwood's wedding ceremony as the weather presenter eloped with her fiance Steve Randall.

Carol, who worked with Steph at BBC Breakfast, tied the knot with Steve in December last year but remained tight-lipped about their adventurous plan. Instead of a typical celebrity wedding Carol, 61, chose to not immerse herself in the fanfare and kept her guest-list minimal.

In a recent interview, Steph, who bid an emotional goodbye to viewers last year after her show Steph's Packed Lunch was axed, said: "It was very private. Carol and I are very very close friends, in fact, I was there the day she met Steve!"

She continued: "They did the best thing ever and just took themselves off, didn't tell any of us, got married and then told us all afterwards. We were all so buzzing because I love her to bits and I'm so pleased she's so happy and the pair of them are gorgeous."

At the time of the nuptials, Steph shared a number of pictures taken of Carol on her special day and wrote a cute message to accompany the snaps. She penned: "How gorgeous and happy do Carol and Steve look? Congratulations. So pleased for you both. " Carol and Steve exchanged their wedding vows at Cliveden House, a Grade I stately home surrounded by 376 acres of land.

Speaking of her decision to keep her guestlist small, Carol explained: "It was very small as well and intimate so you didn’t have to worry that Auntie Nellie didn’t have a glass of sherry in her hand. You know, that kind of thing." She added: "I cannot tell you how fabulous it’s been. You shouldn’t really be talking like this about your own wedding, but it was blissful. It was romantic. It was absolutely perfect. And I would not change a thing about the day."

But Carol's wedding is not the only thing Steph has been excited about - she was also overjoyed to organise her daughter's fourth birthday. She said: "You have that paranoia of, 'Is anyone going to turn up, did anyone get the invite, is any kid going to end up in A&E?' But it all went well, phew! There will be another one before long." She then explained: ". Me and my partner are like, 'Whose turn is it to go to the party?' but I've gotten into it. As long as we can find out where the bar is afterwards nearby, this is going to be fun!"

Earlier this week Steph posted a picture of her and her rarely seen mother as they spent the day together going by train to Steph's hometown of Middlesbrough. In the snap, Steph is seen sat with her mum at the train table while her mum smiled at the camera. Meanwhile, Steph posed with her 2024 diary in in one hand and wrote: "Back to Boro with my mum."

And to celebrate Mother's Day Steph posted a series of never-seen-before pictures and wrote: "Happy Mother's Day Mam. " She added:"From collecting twigs in the woods in Middlesbrough to going to Boro football matches together to tasting a bit of the high life at Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Garden Party... We've had some cracking times…"
