Baldur's Gate 3 PS5 emergency patch pushed to halt save issues
In the wake of Xbox’s Baldur’s Gate 3 save problems finally being solved, developer Larian Studios has pushed out an emergency patch to solve similar woes on PS5.
Just when you think all things save issue-related with Baldur’s Gate 3 had been ironed out for good, another issue pops up. In this instance it’s the PS5 version of the game that’s been affected, causing players on the platform to overload the number of save allocations with invisible files that are unable to be deleted. Luckily, Larian Studios seems to already be on the case, with people on PlayStation now (hopefully) able to enjoy the game without the stress of losing run progress once more.
The particular issue pops up in the PS5 version of Baldur’s Gate 3 as “Error 544”, and Larian Studios acknowledged in a tweet that this causes invisible save files to be generated that blocks players from saving their true progress. Luckily a new Baldur’s Gate PS5 patch has now been pushed out, which the studio says solves the issue. The patch “makes these saves visible” whereas they weren’t before, so now all players need to do is delete them.
Larian detailed in a follow-up Twitter post the process of resolving the Error 544 issue, which is as follows. Just be sure you’ve updated Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 to the latest version first.
- Update your game with the new patch
- Navigate to 'Load Game' on the game menu
- Review old saves that may have been invisible
- Delete these old saves
- Launch your main game save
A safe place
Up until this point, the PS5 version of Baldur’s Gate 3 has been running buttery smooth, especially when compared to the delayed Xbox version that hasn’t been able to catch a break. Previously those who played on Xbox Series X risked losing all save progress any time a crash was experienced. That was until Microsoft eventually stepped in to roll out a firmware patch that resolved the issue.
Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's six week delay is a good thingBy comparison, Larian Studios has jumped on this particular PS5 issue with haste. And better yet, it didn’t even need Sony to roll out an update at firmware level to get it solved. Hopefully this is the last instance where save issues continue to play the unequivocal 2023 GOTY winner. The only version of the game that hasn’t incurred save problems so far is PC – so let’s hope it stays that way.
