The Luxembourg royal family have made a very happy announcement. Princess Claire and Prince Felix welcomed their third child on 7 January - and the newborn has a special name to mark the time of year of his birth.

Felix, 39, and Claire, 38, are already parents to Princess Amalia, nine, and Prince Liam, seven. Their newborn arrived just one day after the celebrations for Epiphany, a Christian feast day commemorating the visit of the Three Kings in the story of the nativity.

And the proud parents seem to have taken inspiration from the celebrations as they crowned their baby boy Balthasar - the name of one of the kings.

A statement shared on behalf of the couple on Instagram confirmed the news. It read: "It is with great joy that we announce the birth of our son. The prince was born on 7th January 2024 at the Maternité Grande-Duchesse Charlotte.

The newborn Prince will be named Balthasar Felix Karl. He weighs 3.220 kg (7lbs 1 oz) and measures 50 cm. Prince Balthasar and Princess Claire are in perfect health. Félix and Claire with Amalia and Liam."

Little Balthazar is the seventh grandchild for Luxembourg's Grand Duke Henri, and his wife, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and is currently seventh in line to the throne.

Felix and bioethics researcher Claire first met while they were studying at Swiss boarding school, Collège Alpin International Beau Soleil.

They went on to marry on 17 September 2013, and live in the south of France at the Château Les Crostes, a winery in Lorgues that has been owned by Claire's family, the Lademachers, for many years.

Prince Balthasar won't be the only new addition to Luxembourg's royal family. Last month, the palace announced that Princess Alexandra and her husband, Nicolas Bagory, are expecting their first child this spring. Princess Alexandra is Grand Duke Henri's fourth of five children.

His eldest son and heir, Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg, married his wife, Countess Stephanie in 2012, and together they share two children, Prince Charles, three, and François, who will turn one on 27 March 2024. The children are second and third in the line of succession to the throne of Luxembourg, respectively.

New dad Prince Felix is Henri's second-born son, followed by Prince Louis, who shares two children with his ex-wife Tessy; Gabriel, 17, and Noah, 16.

Princess Alexandra, the Grand Duke's only daughter, will welcome her first baby this year, while her younger brother, Prince Sebastian is currently single and without children.
