GTA 5 on Xbox Game Pass will soon be no more – alongside two acclaimed RPGs
Xbox Game Pass' first batch of games leaving in 2024 has been confirmed, and subscribers are losing out on three of the greatest games ever made.
Microsoft is celebrating the new year by taking some games off of Xbox Game Pass, and unfortunately, this month comes with some big losses. Once again, GTA 5 is leaving Xbox Game Pass after a re-joining the service back in the Xbox Game Pass July 2023 lineup. The best-selling title from Rockstar Games has had a habit of appearing on subscriptions for a short stint before heading off into the ether – so it's not surprising to see this happen again.
The timing of this is a bit rough considering there's undoubtedly been a renewed interest in GTA 5 since the release of the GTA 6 trailer at the tail-end of last year, and especially since PS Plus Extra's December 2023 recently dropped and included GTA 5.
As if losing GTA 5 wasn't bad enough, Xbox Game Pass subscribers are also losing two of the greatest RPGs ever made – Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable. The PS Vita and PSP remakes of these PS2 classics were ported to modern platforms early last year, arriving as day one Xbox Game Pass launches, and are now leaving just one year later. Considering the day one Xbox Game Pass release of Persona 5 Royal' s Xbox release also left after a year, this isn't exactly a surprise, but it still stings a bit.
Thankfully, Xbox Game Pass players looking for a Persona 3 fix don't need to worry, as the brand new remake of that game Persona 3 Reload is launching as a day one Xbox Game Pass release on February 2, 2024. And if our thoughts shared in the Persona 3 Reload Gamescom preview is anything to go by, it's shaping up to be the definitive version of the game.

The following is the full list of games leaving Xbox Game Pass on in the first half of January as shown on the Xbox Wire:
On Friday, January 5 Xbox Game Pass loses the following games
- GTA 5 (Xbox One)
- GTA 5 (Xbox Series X|S)
While these titles will be leaving on Monday, January 15
- Persona 3 Portable
- Persona 4 Golden
- Garden Story
- MotoGP 22
As always, you can nab a discount of at least 20% on any of the games leaving Xbox Game Pass if you're a subscriber. Personally I'd recommend Persona 4 Golden, a game that is my second favourite game ever made, and one of the best RPGs of all time.
