'Fast and easy' poached egg hack doesn't need a pan or water
Foodies are gobsmacked after discovering an effortless way to rustle up their eggs in the morning.
Poached eggs are a perfect, high-protein breakfast and a tasty way to start your day. There are so many recipes out there of different ways to enjoy them, and everyone has their own method of cooking this delicious snack that they absolutely swear by.
However, of all the ways you can make your eggs, from scrambled and fried to omelettes - poached is probably the method that is easiest to get wrong.
This is partly because it's hard to tell once the egg is in the water in your pan just how cooked it is and depending on slight variations in the heat, you can take them out after relying on your usual timing, only to find the yolk has gone hard or that the whites are not properly cooked.
The hack was posted on TikTok by creator @danarebeccadesigns who filmed her mother trying it out, who was seriously impressed by the new method, which she claimed doesn't require a pan of water to get right.
'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'"I recently learned how to poach an egg, and I thank whoever it was on TikTok. Break an egg into a small Pyrex bowl, add a little bit of water - just enough to cover the yolk - and put it in the microwave," she explained.
You should microwave the egg for about 36-45 seconds, depending on your appliance's wattage, according to the creator, who admitted there had been a bit of "trial and error" trying to get the timing right, but once she found the sweet spot she was more than happy with the results.
Once it has finished cooking, simply take the bowl carefully from the microwave before removing the egg from it using your handy slotted spoon. The video shows the creator cut open the egg to reveal it was perfectly cooked inside, with the yolk running beautifully across the plate.
Some commenters were quick to throw their support behind the hack, with one saying: "[I've] been doing this for years," and another saying, "Perfect, no more dirty pan for one egg."
However, a few people admitted in the comments that they had tried it only to have the egg explode in their microwave while it was cooking, to avoid this you can reportedly add salt to the bowl, or "poke the yolk with a toothpick".
