When you were younger, no doubt you went through the phase of desperately wanting to dye your hair an unusual colour - and it was likely met with resistance from your parents.

One woman's little sister, however, was left with blue hair after she 'swiped it' from her 21-year-old sister who had 'put a little bit of hair dye in her shampoo' - and it's safe to say that her family didn't see the funny side.

She took to Reddit's 'Am I the a**hole' forum to explain that her hairdresser told her that the 'colour sticks better' if you put some hair dye in your shampoo - but when her sister decided to use it 'the result wasn't pretty' and she said her 'whole family is mad'.

She wrote: "So I (21) have blue hair and I was told by a hairdresser that the color [sic] sticks better if you put a little bit of hair dye in your shampoo. This was all good until my 12-year-old sister decided to swipe and use my shampoo.

"She is blonde and the result isn't pretty. My mum is mad at me for putting dye in my shampoo and not telling anyone.

"This is my shampoo that I bought and I had placed it in the shower that only I use and my sister took it and used it in another shower.

"She has done this before with other items and my mum also thinks I did this as a way to teach her not to steal my stuff (I didn't).

"So yeah the whole family is mad, should I have told them about me putting hair dye into my shampoo?"

In the comments, Redditors found the funny side as the replies were littered with crying with laughter emojis.

One wrote: "Your sister just learned what happens when you take someone's things without asking!"

Another said: "I wouldn't tell my family what I was doing with my own shampoo either, how weird. It's none of their business. You're not the a**hole at all."

"I would have thought the dye made the shampoo blue so it's not like there weren't some visual clues", someone mocked.
