Expert shares simple cost-effective hack to remove red wine stains
Nothing can dampen a party like red wine spilled on the carpet, but there's an easy fix.
Even if you made it through Christmas and Boxing Day without any red wine spills, with New Year on the horizon all that could change. The darker and deeper the colour of the drink that is spilt the more difficult it becomes to get out of the carpet.
And even if you are not afraid of cleaning products and putting in a little elbow grease sometimes scrubbing at the problem only makes it worse. There are several hacks for removing red wine stains but many come up with disappointing results. But don't worry, there is a genius hack that can help.
One cleaning expert decided to show you the ultimate red wine cleaning hack and he shared a video to show the stain being cleaned so the record of the best way to clean such stains could be updated and set straight once in for all. , from Jeeves of Belgravia Dry Cleaners in New York, took to social media to reveal what to do.
Sharing the hack with his almost 600,000 followers on TikTok, the trick won’t cost you a fortune and all you will need is warm water, white vinegar, an iron and a clean towel.

For the first step, you mix the warm water and white vinegar and then you spread this over the area you’d like to be cleaned. Once you have done this you can place the towel over it.
Zachary said: “First, you're going to take one part vinegar, and three parts warm water. Pour that on the stain.
“Vinegar is going to neutralise it and then we're going to put a clean towel on top of it.”
Once the towel has been placed on top of the solution you spread on the stain you will need to heat up your iron and iron over the towel. Zachary said “Heat your iron hottest setting and iron it. Heat is hopefully going to transfer the wine stain from the carpet into your towel.”
He added: “You don't need to push some steam into it, just let the heat do its thing. You may need to repeat this, but you can already see the wine coming up.”
In the video, Zachary can be seen using the hack with new towels until the stain was mostly removed. He repeated the process a few times before he got the desired results.”
Once the majority of the stain is lifted if there is “residual redness” Zachary recommends using “hydrogen peroxide on the stain.”
He said “This is an oxygenating bleach and it's going to correct that colour over time. It’s a great thing to have in the house as is but honestly, this works pretty well.”
In the video, he then spread the hydrogen peroxide over the area and left it.The video then moves to the next stage were the stained area is shown and there isn’t stain in sight.
Zachary warned that whilst this is an effective red wine spill hack, this wouldn’t necessarily work for other stains such as egg and blood. He said: “Acids are great at removing tannin-based stains like coffee, wine and tea.”
