A brand-new series is heading to streaming platforms that will shine a spotlight on one of Charles Dickens’ most iconic characters. Launching in the new year, The Artful Dodger is set to be a darkly comedic series that follows the exploits of Jack Dawkins, the eponymous pickpocket from Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.
Jack is now living in Australia where he works as a respected surgeon, but fate sees him return to his life of crime. The Australian produced series acts as a sequel to the classic tale and will reconnect audiences with several beloved Dickensian characters.
The series has been warmly received and currently boasts a 95 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Guardian awarded the show four stars, praising it as “fresh, playful [and] whimsical” with “wild energy that keeps it zipping along.”

Set in 1850s Australia in the lively colony of Port Victory, Jack Dawkins – aka The Artful Dodger – is now a surgeon who still has a penchant for crime. When Dodger’s past returns to haunt him with the arrival of Fagin, he is lured back into a world of crime.
From heists to life-and-death surgeries, to the harsh realities of the criminal world mingling with the middle ground and gentry, the series is a tale of reinvention, betrayal, redemption, and love with a twist.

The Artful Dodger comprises a stacked cast of British and Australian talent, led by Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Jack Dawkins – AKA The Artful Dodger. The English actor is best-known for playing Sam – the lovestruck son of Liam Neeson’s character – in Love Actually and more recently Benny Watts in Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit.
He is joined by Harry Potter’s David Thewlis as Fagin and The Fosters star Maia Mitchell as Lady Belle Fox, the governor's daughter. An all-star Australian lineup of talent completes the cast, featuring Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s Damon Herriman and comedian Tim Minchin.

The Artful Dodger is available to stream from Wednesday, January 17. All eight episodes will drop at once, making it perfect for a weekend binge-watch.
How to watch The Artful Dodger for free with money-saving deals
The Artful Dodger will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland. This means that to watch The Artful Dodger when it launches, viewers will need a subscription to Disney+, which now costs as little as £4.99 a month.

Currys customers can pick up the high-spec 43” 4K Ultra HD QLED smart TV for £499, which includes six months of free Disney+ Premium, saving more than £65.
EE customers can get Disney+ free for a year and save more than £95 when picking up a new Galaxy S23 FE handset, plus £100 cashback and Galaxy Buds FE, with the option of adding Netflix and Apple TV+ to certain plans like the All Rounder. Three mobile customers can also bag a year of free Disney+, as well as Paramount+ free for up to two years.
