Sometimes, when posing on social media with best friends who look similar to you, in the comments section, some may joke that you look like sisters.

And when one woman posted a picture standing beside her doppelganger, people flocked to tell her that she and her friend could be twins. But there's a reason for this, and some people were shocked to find out. We're so used to seeing heavily filtered images on social media, that many didn't realise that the pair of beauties have both been created by Artificial Intelligence (AI) - so the pair are not even real people.

Milla Sofia says she is a "24-year-old living in Helsinki", but she's not. She's actually virtual and is the product of a computer and someone's imagination. And her friend HEiDi-Ai has also been created by AI, and she shares similar features to Milla, which is why people were confusing them as twins.

In a photo shared on Milla's Instagram page, the virtual mates were also seen wearing matching cream jumpers as they hugged and smiled for the camera "while in Lapland" together. Milla said: "Having a blast with my friend Heidi in Lapland. So many fun memories together! Go give her a follow!"

To further enhance the façade, HEiDi-Ai also commented on the post, saying: "Best times of my life baby girl!" In the comments of the picture, someone wrote: "You look so sweet", with another penning: "Looking like best of friends, very cool." One person wasn't impressed with the AI-generated women, however, fuming: "People still think these girls are real?! Seriously?!?"

The pair also shared another photo standing together in a generated snow hut, and Milla could be seen solo standing in front of the Northern Lights. And for many, it doesn't matter that the pair aren't real, as they rack up many likes and comments.

This isn't the only way that AI is being used, either, as many youngsters are using it to help with their homework, and some are even using it to apply for jobs. More than half of young people in the UK have relied on using an AI chatbot such as ChatGPT over the last 12 months to help assist them with emails, schoolwork or their job, new research suggests.

Speaking about AI, the research showed that 53% of those asked said they had used an AI chatbot and were curious about how they could use it in their lives, while 54% said they were concerned about the impact AI could have on jobs in the future.
