During the speech, the 60-year-old actor read: "We pray for a deeper spirit of compassion in the world. At the event, Shane's wife was seen breaking down in tears as she stood before her husband's coffin wrapped up in an Irish flag. The 65-year-old singer was a famous figure in his native country rising to stardom from his time Celtic punk band The Pogues. Even the president of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, paid his respects to the singer and labelled him as "one of music's greatest lyricists."

Shane's funeral service was held Friday after the famous musician recently passed away in November after falling ill with pneumonia. The singer's passing came following his declining health in connection with an ongoing brain condition. Last December, Shane was diagnosed with viral encephalitis a rare and sometimes life-threatening condition that causes patients to experience brain swelling.
