Fish and chips is a hearty feast synonymous with the UK, and anyone who visits the country probably has trying the battered cuisine high on their bucket list.

During a visit to the restaurant Little Taste of Britain in Layton, Utah, which serves British cuisine, an American woman - known as @amberkacherian on TikTok - documented her first sample of battered fish, chips, and mushy peas.

The fact she had not sampled the feast before was not surprising, but the way she ate the main dish, and sides and used the condiments. Speaking in the clip she said: "We have found an authentic British restaurant in America, let's go and check it out.

"So the interior is decorated like the UK with each booth representing a different town in the UK, and of course, I couldn’t resist going to play in the phone booth. There’s lots of British china and decorations, and of course, we can’t forget the picture of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. Here’s the menu, time to try the British food. I got the fish and chips of course."

In the video on social media, Amber appeared to enjoy the food, as she exclaimed "This is good fish".

Amber proceeded to eat the fish by picking it up with her fingers and chowing down on it as if it was a burger, instead of using cutlery, or the miniature wooden forks many get with takeaway fish and chips in the UK.

Amber was not only confused about how to eat the cuisine but what to do with the vinegar, which is usually showered over the fish and chips, alongside salt.

She questioned: "The fish and chips comes with vinegar, but what exactly is the vinegar for? Do you put it on the fish or do you put it on the chips, we're not really sure."

Amber's friend who accompanied her on the trip proceeded to dip a chip into the pot of vinegar, which he was not impressed with and spat out in disgust because of the tangy flavour.

Quizzing the purpose of mushy peas, she went on: "Why mush them? Why not just eat them whole, like in regular pea form?"

Amber went on to try other classic British dishes, including "bangers and mash", otherwise known as sausage and mash, Shepherd's Pie, as well as Spotted Dick and Sticky Toffee Pudding, washed down with a selection of British drinks such as the Scottish staple Irn Bru.

To conclude the video, Amber said: "We liked some of it, but some of it - not so much." Fellow TikTok users had a lot to say about Amber's experience and her way of eating it.

One commented: "OMG! The horror of eating the fish with your hands."

A second shared: "Can we talk about the fact she isn’t using cutlery with fish?", while a third added: "was prepared to mock its authenticity? But the fish and chips looked banging but WHY DID YOU PICK IT UP WITH YOUR HANDS."

While another vented: "Being British I nearly had a heart attack when you dipped the chips in the vinegar."
