Squid Game: The Challenge contestants reportedly used lubricated condoms as chapstick while on the show prior to being given their own individual lip balm by production.

The Netflix reality show - based on the series Squid Game, which debuted on the streaming platform in 2021 - sees contestants compete in various challenges for the chance to win a $4.56 million (around £3.6 million) prize fund.

The participants - who were assigned numbers, like the characters on the original show - are understood to have stayed in a dorm together while on the show, which is said to have been filmed at an aircraft hanger in Bedfordshire.

Trey Plutnicki - who is also known as Player 301 - spoke to Entertainment Weekly (EW) about the experience. He told the outlet that some contestants used lubricated condoms on their apparently chapped lips whilst competing on the reality TV show.

According to EW, players were given a bag of toiletries - including a toothbrush, toothpaste and hand sanitiser - upon arrival into the dorm. There's said to have also been communal toiletries to use in the bathrooms on the set.

Lip balm however was reportedly not provided initially, with some contestants said to have taken action after a few days. The outlet said that some players ended up unwrapping condoms provided and used the lubrication on their lips.

Trey described the apparent decision as "stupid" and he suggested that it wasn't something he tried himself. He also told the outlet: "Within a day, maybe a day and a half, all the condoms were gone." He said it was "absurd," before adding that other contestants "kept trying it and it didn't work".

The contestant - who competed alongside his mother LeAnn Wilcox Plutnicki, also known as Player 302 - told the outlet that he did use other products on his lips, including lotion. It was suggested that it didn't end up working though.

Producers however are said to have later given players individual tins of lip balm with their respective assigned number on it, according to EW. Trey told the outlet that he didn't end up keeping his as a memento but now regrets it.

The season finale of Squid Game: The Challenge will be released next Wednesday (December 6) on Netflix. Previous episodes of the reality TV show are available through the streaming platform now, along with the original Squid Game.
