Some Squid Game: The Challenge contestants have threatened legal action against the show.

They have claimed they suffered hypothermia and nerve damage while filming the game. Personal injuries law firm Express Solicitors has said they are representing two unnamed players who claim they were injured when filming in the cold conditions. The firm says they have sent letters of claim to co-producer of the Netflix show, Studio Lambert.

The contestants allege they were injured during Squid Game: The Challenge's opening game Red Light, Green Light. Players have to try to evade the attention of a robotic doll. The spin-off competition is based on the hit Korean series, Squid Game, and follows the same challenges without the fatal consequences.

Just like the series, a total of 456 contestants took part in order to compete for the unbelievable grand prize of £3.66million. The Red Light, Green Light game was filmed at Cardington Studios, a former Royal Air Force base in Bedford. At the time there was a cold snap in Britain and Netflix did confirm three of the 456 players needed medical attention.

Express Solicitors have said its clients risked their health by having to stay motionless for long periods during the shoot as they attempted to stay in the competition. In a press release, Daniel Slade, CEO of Express Solicitors, said: “We recognise people may see this as a classic David and Goliath battle with the company and its production partners.

“Contestants thought they were taking part in something fun and those injured did not expect to suffer as they did. Now they have been left with injuries after spending time being stuck in painful stress positions in cold temperatures.”

The original game from the drama saw contestants getting shot and killed if they moved an inch when 'red light' was called out by the 14ft-tall trigger-happy mechanic doll. When 'green light' is called out, the contestants have to inch closer to the finish line in order to be deemed safe. In the game show, the contestants are taken out of the game by radio-controlled dye instead.

Viewers watch as contestants become ruthless and use a series of manipulative tactics to get closer to the cash prize. Each elimination of a contestant adds £8,000 to the prize fund.

Contestant Lorenzo Nobilio, 26, has opened up about what it was like taking part in the terrifying games. "It felt like it was real - it didn't feel like you were in a fictional place," he said. Out of all the games, Red Light, Green Light was the hardest game to get through and took a whopping seven hours to complete.

Lorenzo added to the BBC : "I made it past the line in seven hours, that was a very long time, but it's called Squid Game: The Challenge, it's not an all-inclusive holiday in the Canary Islands." Squid Game: The Challenge runs for 10 episodes and dropped on Wednesday, November 22 at 8am.

The Mirror has contacted Netflix and Studio Lambert for comment.
