Remnant 2 Xbox Game Pass surprise launch is another win for Xbox
Xbox Game Pass subscribers got a welcome early Christmas gift to see off November, as both Remnant games – including 2023's Remnant 2 – arrive on the subscription.
Xbox Game Pass keeps on winning as PS Plus continues to flounder. Not only did the service have an excellent November with day one launches including Like a Dragon Gaiden, Persona 5 Tactica, and Football Manager 2024; but Microsoft decided to surprise Xbox Game Pass subscribers with two more drops this week. 2019's Soulslike hit Remnant: From the Ashes arrived out of nowhere this week, which is an excellent get by itself, but Xbox did us one better by adding its sequel Remnant 2 alongside it (a game which only launched 4 months ago!).
Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant 2 both take inspiration from FromSoftware's phenomenal Dark Souls series, except rather than adapt the traditional Soulslike sword and shield style, the Remnant series instead focuses on firearm-based combat. And while the idea of a Dark Souls game where you can just shoot all the enemies from a distance may sound like it would trivialise some of the genre's difficulty, Remnant is anything but easy – just watch the Mirror Gaming playthrough of Remnant 2 and you'll find that out quickly.
Considering that the PS Plus November 2023 lineup featured a mixture of mid and old with Dragon Ball: The Breakers and Mafia 2, it's no contest between the two subscriptions at the moment.

That's seven day one launches right there, alongside Rollerdrome which is a day one launch as far as Xbox players are concerned (it launched on PC and PlayStation last year). And we have Steamworld Build coming as a day one launch this Friday, December 1. Obviously this isn't the case every month, but it's been an incredible November for Xbox Game Pass.
