Antonio Banderas reflected on his “very bad” heart attack that he believes was a “knock at the door”.

The 63-year-old Hollywood icon revealed in 2017 that he had suffered a heart attack, and has been given a new perspective following the terrifying experience. Antonio, who shares daughter Stella and stepdaughter Dakota Johnson with ex-wife Melanie Griffith, was forced to reevaluate his life following his heart attack, which he said was caused by years of bad choices and "going down the wrong path".

During an interview with Fox News Digital, the Oscar-nominated actor spoke about how bad it could’ve been, and was grateful to still be alive. “It was a knock at the door for me. “It could have been very bad. I mean, if people ask me, 'So, how is it to have a heart attack?" I don't know. I can tell you about my own,” he explained.

He told Fox News Digital that his heart attack could have been much worse, and he acknowledged that he was incredibly lucky to have survived, as for others, there is “no second chance.”

“And there are people who have a heart attack that they don't even know. Sleeping or whatever. And then they feel weird the next day, and they don't even know what happened,” Antonio continued.

“In my case, it was a close call and advice to just really, really, really look at life in a different way. I was just going on the wrong path,” he added.

His health scare came two years after he and second wife Melanie finalised their divorce after almost 20 years of marriage, and he admitted he threw himself into work to cope with their shock split.

“I was coming out of my divorce and was confused. It was just doing a lot of things. I'm protecting myself and finding sanctuary in work. Making movies one behind the other. It was crazy,” the Puss in Boots star explained.

“And, so, when I stopped, and I came out of this horse of adrenaline is when my heart said, ‘Pow, stop it.’ It's not the way,” he candidly shared.
