Leave it out! Sam Mitchell crashes back into Albert Square as she is thrown from the back of a van in front of older brother Phil.

The EastEnders character, played by Kim Medcalf, 49, left the Square in a black cab in April for a job running a hotel in Spain. But in a week viewers will see Sam checking back into East London life – and the lives of her son Ricky and new granddaughter Charli Slater.

After a year-long stint on the series, the character left in April. Sam was determined to support her son Ricky (Frankie Day), who is set to become a dad when Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) gives birth, so she decided to take a job managing a hotel in Spain.

However, Ricky didn't take the news very well as he’d enjoyed spending time with his mum and getting to know her properly over the past year. Sam's final scenes showed the mother and son sharing a heartfelt goodbye and hugging as Sam got a taxi for the airport.

Viewers were gutted over Sam's departure, however it was never confirmed as a permanent exit. During an episode in April, Sam's departure was mentioned as Denise Fox (Diane Parish) informed Kim ( Tameka Empson ) that she’d received a call from Sam.

She said: "She’s staying in Spain," as she added that Sam claimed the hotel "desperately" need her. The conversation ended by Denise saying that Sam would be away in Spain for "most of the summer", however an exact date for her return has not yet been confirmed.

She then went on to reveal that Jack Branning, played by Scott Maslen, is writing up an ad to rent out flat 5D on Albert Square, which is where Sam was living during her latest stint. Alfie Moon, who is played by Shane Richie, overheard the revelation which obviously piqued his interest, as he's currently shacked up in the Slater household.
