Patrick Dempsey named as 2023's Sexiest Man Alive after Dr. McDreamy legacy
The longstanding tradition of highlighting the hottest man on the planet continues as Patrick Dempsey is named PEOPLE's 2023 Sexiest Man Alive.
In a dramatic reveal on Jimmy Kimmel, Patrick accepted his award. As the audience asked questions in an effort to correctly identified the man, Jimmy realised they were a bit far off. He offered them the hint that he played an on-screen doctor. Ultimately, someone put the clues together and realised that this was the one and only Dr. McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy.
Patrick rose to fame starting in the 90s when he appeared in the sitcom Will & Grace. From there, he picked up occasional roles including as a young JFK in a miniseries and Detective Kincaid in Scream 3. From there, Patrick moved into the realm of Disney, starring in the Enchanted series. However, Grey's Anatomy continuously remains to be the show he is most associated with. He plays Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd across Ellen Pompeo.

Additionally, Patrick is a race car driver. He told Eurosport: "I would like to make that [motorsports] a complete priority and just focus on this full-time. If I could just walk away from acting, I think I could do that very easily, and just focus on the driving, I would love that more than anything else."

Also in the running for this prestigious title were a variety of actors, singers, and athletes who captivated the gaze of fans this year for one reason or another. While they certainly all deserved their nomination, not everyone could be crowned as sexiest. The additional nominees were:
Jason Kelce

In recent years, the star has been candid about a undisclosed "medical complication" that threatened his life. During his recovery, he wrote on Instagram: "You’re lookin at a man who is thankful… finally startin to feel like myself… it’s been an unexpected dark journey… but I can see the light."
Timothée Chalamet

The actor is best known for his controversial role in Call Me By Your Name and his subsequent leading role in Dune. He is set to make his next on-screen appearance as the lead in Wonka, the latest of the Willy Wonka film adaptations releasing in December.
A native New Yorker, Timothée started his collegiate education at Columbia University before transferring to New York University. He pursued his acting alongside his academics, portraying a role in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar.
Pedro Pascal
