Usher announced as Super Bowl halftime headliner with help from Kim Kardashian
Usher has been announced as the headline act for the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show in Las Vegas.
The game is scheduled to take place on February 11 and the musician has said it's "an honour of a lifetime" to finally perform at the iconic sporting event. The announcement was made by Kim Kardashian in a fun video shared by the NFL on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"USHER. LAS VEGAS. APPLE MUSIC HALFTIME SHOW. #SBLVIII. See you on February 11 on @NFLonCBS!" they wrote alongside the clip. In the video, Kim called Usher to tell him the exciting news as he was busy recording music in the studio.
As Usher tried to put the phone down, Kim insisted it was urgent. "I finally got the answer to those rumours, it's not about me it's about you," she told him. "You're doing the Super Bowl."
Usher was in disbelief and said: "You're playing with me man." After asking Kim how she knew, she replied: "I know everything." The mother-of-four then joked that she would be needing tickets for all of her family and friends.
Kim Kardashian weighs in on sister feud after Kourtney's sad 'outsider' claimsSpeaking about the announcement in a statement, Usher said: "It's an honour of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can't wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they've seen from me before. Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I'll see you real soon."
Fans went wild for the announcement, with one person posting: "This is going to be fire. I hope everybody can tune tune in to the halftime show. Congratulations, Usher." Another said: "This is gonna be great."
Usher follows in the footsteps of Rihanna, who wowed viewers with her incredible Super Bowl halftime show performance in Arizona back in February. It was the most-watched halftime show in Super Bowl history.
During the show, Rihanna showed off her baby bump as she announced she was pregnant with her second child. Fans were stunned when they witnessed her rub her stomach as she was lowered into the stadium, with a statement confirming the exciting news.
Usher previously performed at the Super Bowl halftime show back in 2011. The Love in this Club hitmaker was invited onto the stage as a special guest by that year's headline act, the Black Eyed Peas.
The musician is currently headlining his Usher: My Way residency in Las Vegas. He's expected to finish his run of sold-out shows in December before performing at the Super Bowl a couple of months later.
Jesse Collins, the Emmy-winning producer, and Roc Nation will serve as co-executive producers of the halftime show. Hamish Hamilton will be returning as director.
