Matthew Perry wanted Zac Efron to play him in a film about his life but he turned down the role.
The star previously recalled asking the 35-yer-old to play him after they worked together on 2009 film 17 Again and Matthew was impressed by his work. The movie saw Zac play a younger version of the Friends star.
But, when he was approached by Matthew to take on the role of a 20-years-younger version of himself in a romcom he'd written, Zac turned it down. It has been said that Matthew wanted him to take on the similar role again due to being impressed with his acting in 2009.

But he said no. So, we've got to find someone who says yes." Last week, Athenna Crosby, a friend of Matthew Perry told People that the late actor "wanted Zac Efron, who's played him already to play him again because he said he did such a good job."
In 17 Again, Matthew played middle-aged husband and father Mike who missed his high school days. A freak encounter with a time vortex sends Mike back 20 years to become his teenage self, who is played by Zac Efron.

Matthew passed away last Saturday at the age of 54 in a suspected drowning. The actor was found unresponsive in his hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28. Law enforcement says 911 dispatched responders at around 4:00 pm due to a report of cardiac arrest.
When they arrived on the scene, they began water rescue protocol after Matthew had seemingly drowned. It was reported that there were no illegal drugs on the scene and cops did not suspect any foul play.
Matthew Perry was laid to rest at a cemetery in LA that is already home to Hollywood's elite. Perry's family was seen arriving first at the event, with Matthew's father, John Bennett Perry, and stepfather, Keith Morrison spotted arriving early at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His former Friends co-stars also attended the service.
In a statement they said: "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty's family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."
In a statement, Matthew's family also wrote: "We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love."
