Matthew Perry films you can stream now and where to watch them
Matthew Perry, known for playing Chandler Bing in US sitcom Friends, died on Saturday (October 28) aged 54. As the world mourns, millions of fans around the world will feel as though they have truly lost a friend.
The hit ‘90s show made Perry and his co-stars some of the biggest names in showbiz, with the sitcom still beaming into homes around the world almost 20 years after its final episode aired. But outside of Friends, Perry also starred in a number of feature films, each with varying degrees of success.
While none of his other project ever matched the success he had with Friends, they did see him star alongside some huge Hollywood stars, including Bruce Willis, Salma Hayek and Zac Efron. Off-screen, Perry found success as an author with his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, that takes readers behind the scenes of Friends and explores his troubles with addiction. This 1997 rom-com marked Perry’s first leading role in a feature film. In it, he stars as Alex, a straight-laced corporate type from New York City.
Sparks fly when he meets fiery Mexican-American Isabel (Salma Hayek) in Las Vegas, but neither of them give a thought to where a single night of passion could lead. Three months later, Isabel is pregnant and impulsively they decide to marry.
However, it turns out to be a rocky road as both parties have to compromise their own cultural traditions.

Almost Heroes
This adventure comedy stars the late Chris Farley in his final leading film role and was released the year after his death in 1997. It follows explorers Bartholemew Hunt (Farley) and Leslie Edwards (Perry) as they set forth against nature across the United States on a journey to the Pacific Ocean against rivals Lewis and Clark.
Along the way they have many mishaps and misfortunes.

Three to Tango
Perry starred alongside Neve Campbell and Dylan McDermott in this 1999 rom-com. Wealthy businessman Charles (McDermott) thinks his new colleague Oscar (Perry) is gay.
He asks Oscar to keep an eye on his mistress, Amy (Campbell), to ensure she doesn’t interact with Charles’ wife. However, Oscar is not gay, and falls for Amy himself after a night of bumbling misadventures.

The Whole Nine Yards
This 1999 crime comedy was one of Perry’s most successful feature films and saw him star alongside Bruce Willis and Rosanna Arquette. Perry starred as Nicholas “Oz” Oseransky, an unhappy dentist in Montreal who realises his new neighbour, Jimmy (Willis), is a former mob hitman turned informant with a price on his head.
When Oz’s wife convinces him to betray Jimmy in return for the bounty, he arranges a meeting with the mob. But when his scheming wife tells the former hitman what he is up to, it’s Oz’s life that is placed in grave danger.

The Whole Ten Yards
This crime comedy marked the first sequel of Perry’s film career, released just one month before the airing of Friends’ final episode in 2004. Dentist Oz (Perry) swore he’d never see hitman Jimmy (Bruce Willis) again, but when a mob boss kidnaps his wife, Oz is forced to track down the killer and ask for his help.
Jimmy owes Oz for falsifying his dental records so he can go into retirement, but the retirement is short lived, as he learns the mob boss is an old rival.

Birds of America
Perry starred alongside an impressive cast including Hilary Swank and Zoë Kravitz in this 2008 indie comedy-drama. He starred as Morrie, an anxious, overwrought university professor living with his wife Betty (Lauren Graham) in a house he inherited at the age of 18 after his mother and father died.
Since then, Morrie has been a surrogate parent to his free-spirited younger siblings, brother Jay (Ben Foster) and sister Ida (Ginnifer Goodwin), both of whom are beset with problems of their own.

17 Again
Perry’s final feature film role came alongside High School Musical star Zac Efron in 2009 time-warp comedy 17 Again. Mike O’Donnell (Perry) is ungrateful for how his life turned out – his wife wants a divorce, his kids want nothing to do with him and he’s just quit his job.
After trying to save a janitor near a bridge, Mike magically transforms into his 17-year-old self (Efron) and gets a chance to rewrite his life.
