Liverpool and Chelsea have discovered their quarter-final opponents in the Carabao Cup after they both emerged victorious in the last 16 on Wednesday night.

Darwin Nunez struck a sublime winner for the Reds on the south coast as they saw off Bournemouth 2-1, with Cody Gakpo opening the scoring at the Vitality Stadium before Justin Kluivert levelled for the Cherries.

Chelsea beat Championship Blackburn thanks so strikes from Benoit Badiashile and Raheem Sterling, but Arsenal and Manchester United endured horror evenings.

Declan Rice had a miserable return to the London Stadium as West Ham saw off the Gunners 3-1. A Ben White own goal got the ball running for the Hammers before Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen got on the scoresheet. Martin Odegaard added a late consolation for Mikel Arteta's side.

Meanwhile, the pressure mounted on Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford after United were beaten 3-0 by Newcastle on home soil. Miguel Almiron and Joe Willock scored either side of a first professional goal for youngster Lewis Hall to seal the Magpies' passage into the last eight.

Ten Hag on Newcastle defeat

Erik ten Hag has taken full responsibility for Manchester United's 3-0 defeat against Newcastle as the holders crashed out of the Carabao Cup.

He told Sky Sports: "Players will stand up, they are sticking together, you see that, they tried. I’m responsible for this. We have to do this together."

"Not good enough," Ten Hag added. "We have to take responsibility for this. I have to take responsibility for this."

Howe on Man Utd victory

Eddie Howe has hailed his side's mentality after Newcastle thrashed Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford.

"It was a very good performance, the menality of the group was unbelieveable tonight," he told Sky Sports.

"We had injuries coming into the game and then we pick up another one (Matt Targett) with seconds of the game starting. It would've been easy for players to feel sorry for themselves but credit to the group."

Could the Magpies go one better this year?

Pochettino on Blackburn win

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has set his sights on the Carabao Cup after securing their passage into the quarter-final by beating Blackburn.

"Of course, we need to think we can win this competition," Pochettino said. "Yes. I think so.

"We need to think this is an important competition for us because we are not in Europe so this needs to be a priority for us.

"After Saturday it was important to win the game. Of course, too many chances, we need to be more clinical."

Carabao Cup schedule

All four ties will take place the week commencing Monday, December 18.

They are likely to be held on December 19 and 20, although there's a chance one tie could be played on December 21. This information will be confirmed at a later date.

Arteta on West Ham defeat

Mikel Arteta has reflected on Arsenal's performance as they bowed out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of West Ham.

"What it shows you is that in football what matters is the day," Arteta said. "What you did three days ago is irrelevant, what is going to happen tomorrow is the most important thing.

"We have to use this defeat, this pain to prepare the best way to go to Newcastle and win.

"I'm very disappointed. I'm responsible for that, we're out of the cup, we wanted to play a very different game and compete.

"The game took a direction because of the first goal but we have to see much more from the team and earn the right to win.

"I'm disappointed with myself. I wanted to play in a different way and we weren't able to do that. Every time we lose the pain is there."
